Readiness

Citation readiness check

The Named North citation readiness check is a public self-assessment of whether a company's website is structured so an answer engine can name it.

Named North

  1. 01Does the homepage state, in its first paragraph, what the company is and who it serves?

Answer engines lift opening passages. A sentence that arrives after a slogan is often a different chunk, or no chunk at all.

  2. 02Does the about page repeat those same facts, rather than a second positioning line?

Two official descriptions are two entities. Models resolve the conflict by guessing, or by preferring a competitor with one story.

  3. 03Do the public profiles and directories you control describe the company the same way?

A homepage can be right while a stale profile is the passage that gets retrieved. The record is the whole public web, not only the site you redesigned.

  4. 04Does each question a buyer asks an answer engine have its own URL, with the answer in the first paragraph?

A homepage cannot be the passage for every question. One URL per question gives the chunk a title that matches the ask.

  5. 05Is that answer in the HTML the server sends, not only after a click, a tab, or a chat widget?

If the fetch does not contain the sentence, the sentence is not a candidate. Client-only text is a common reason a clear brand is invisible.

  6. 06Does Organization schema repeat the canonical sentence instead of a different slogan?

Schema is a second copy of the entity. When it disagrees with the visible page, both copies get weaker.

  7. 07Do you publish a sitemap and an llms.txt, and does robots.txt allow answer-engine crawlers?

A system cannot cite a host it is forbidden to fetch. llms.txt is a map. The sitemap is the list. Neither helps if the bot is blocked.

  8. 08Has someone recently asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, and Perplexity the buyer’s questions and written down named, omitted, or misstated?

The public record is a hypothesis until you read the answers. The miss tells you which page to change.

Answer every question. Nothing is uploaded.

How to read the score

Yes scores 2, Partly scores 1, and No scores 0. The maximum is 16.

  • Not yet citable. The public record does not yet contain a stable, extractable description. An answer engine can omit the company without misbehaving.
  • Partially extractable. Some pages can be quoted, but the entity is inconsistent or the answer is buried. Omissions and mixed-up descriptions are still the likely result.
  • Citation-ready structure. The site is no longer the reason to be omitted. Retrieval and naming are still not guaranteed. Models change, and competitors have passages too.
