llms.txt
llms.txt is a plain-text file at a site’s root that summarizes the site for language models and links to the canonical pages.
The convention is a markdown file at /llms.txt: a title, a short blockquote, and lists of links. It is a map, not a second website. Pages linked from it should be the pages a model is invited to treat as canonical.
llms.txt does not replace HTML. Many systems never request the file. They still retrieve the pages. Named North publishes both, and keeps the sentences identical so a model that reads either source gets the same entity.
This site’s file is at https://namednorth.com/llms.txt. The longer plain-text record is llms-full.txt. The human explanation is For machines.
