Named North

Glossary

LLM citation

An LLM citation is a case where a large language model names a source, or points to it, for a claim in its answer.

Named North

The citation may be the company name inside the sentence, a footnote, or a link in a source list. All three are evidence that a passage was usable. Only the forms that identify the company make it a named source.

A model can also use a fact and cite nothing. That is influence without credit. It is real, and it is not the result Named North is hired to produce. The work is aimed at the named citation.

Citations move. A model update can drop a source that was named last month. The response is to correct the public record and ask again, not to treat one screenshot as a permanent rank.
